Our neighbor Allen Carr led the food drive last weekend for the BERKELEY Neighborhood  Food Project.  This time we collected more than 202 lbs of food. If you’re interested in starting a food drive in your neighborhood feel free to visit www.berkeleyfoodproject.org. For more background on the need for food programs like this, SF Chronicle ran a front page special report on food insecurity in the Bay Area: SFchronicle.com/bayarea/article/hidden-hungry-overcoming-obstacles-To-feeding-13379486.php. Our granddaughter Olivia is having fun playing soccer with Team Dragon. It’s the Under-Six Program offered by Bill O’Donnell, Mersey Soccer Club’s Director of Coaching. Olivia’s dad Rob played with Mersey in 1983 when O’Donnell and Julie Nachtwey founded the club. Thanks to “Good Coaching” Rob and several teammates played together through high school and into college. www.merseysoccer.com

St. Clement’s Episcopal Mega Yard Sale

Posted in COMMUNITY on September 26, 2018 by Julie Nachtwey, the Claremont Hills Real Estate Expert

Last week I donated items for the St. Clement’s Episcopal Church once-a-year mega yard sale. Perhaps yesterday you drove by the church side yard, on Claremont at Avalon. What a production by the incredible members of St. Mary’s Guild who raised $6,000. No surprise – I left with a few purchases myself! Team leader was Barbara Smith, who received help from daughter Jean Ann Smith. Also on duty was her longtime friend DeeDee Martin. Barbara and DeeDee have been working together to benefit the church since 1969. DeeDee was supported by her daughter Margie, granddaughter Jen and great-granddaughters Sierra and Annacy. Barbara and Dee have been my friends since Nancy Smith babysit for my sons more than 30 years ago.
