SINGING THE BLUES
Remember Dec 7
Bay Area Blues Society
Freight & Salvage Coffee House
You’re invited to commemorate Pearl Harbor Day on Wed Dec 7 with some of the Oakland Blues Musicians who came to the Bay Area during WW II. They migrated from the South to work in the homefront war effort.
The “Caravan of AllStars” played clubs and restaurants, adding to the lively nightlife along Oakland’s Seventh Street. Some referred to the area as “Harlem West.” In the sixties, construction of BART and other renewal projects, marked the end of an era.
“But the stories and music remain…as performed and recalled by the Allstars, some of whom lived those days and nights,” said Bill Schechner, producer of the show.
Schechner, tv news personality, will do a few quick interviews: “ …about times gone by and characters who lived through them. You’ll dance (I hope) and have a good time.”
