Know Your Neighbors

You never know when neighbors may need your help…or you may need theirs.

During National Night Out festivities Tuesday night, the action was centered in a garage and driveway on West View Drive in the Claremont Hills. That’s where I spent a good part of the evening – sharing food and conversation with neighbors new and old, admiring the adorable children and petting loyal dogs.

Similar events were held in cities across the country as a way to bring people together as part of a grassroots crime-prevention effort. Police say perhaps the single most important way to stay safe is to know your neighbors. National Night Out began 28 years ago to build community awareness. It was launched by the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch.
